Cedar Decking

Cedar sided home with large wrap-around Western Red Cedar deck.Decking adds another outdoor lifestyle option for your home. We also do a full line of Tongue and Grove, V-Grooves and Ship Laps for a more contemporary look.

Floor of a Western Red Cedar deck.Western Red Cedar Decking is available in clear and STK grades. Cedar is naturally resistant to decay and insect damage. It's unique "grown in the wood" preservative oil means that no further chemical treatment is needed, unless the lumber is in direct contact with the ground. Western Red Cedar has less than half the swelling and shrinking tendency of other domestic softwoods. It's also downright beautiful, with rich grains and colors.

Cedar Prestaining

Cedar prestained building.Cleveland Cedar is one of just a few lumber yards that do their own prestaining on site. This gives us complete control of the staining process. We make sure the cedar we start with is dry and at the right temperature before we start staining.

At Cleveland Cedar we pride ourselves in taking the time to make sure you get the right stain for the look you want.

Workers at Cleveland Cedar Products hand-appling prestain.Because we are a small company we are not locked in to just one kind of stain. We can use Benjamin Moore, Cabot, Sikkens and any other stain you prefer.

As you can note in the picture, we hand-apply our stains with a roller, then back wipe with a brush to give you a smooth finish. I have designed my own special drying rack so the wood lay flat, with room for air to circulate to let the stain dry and level out properly.

Whether you need a smooth or rough finish, primers with laytex top coats, solid oil OVT's, or just a natural stain we will help you get what you want.

Cedar Siding

Bevel Siding

Western Red Cedar Bevel Sided home.Western Red Cedar Bevel Siding is the most widely used cedar siding type. It's produced by resawing lumber at an angle, to produce two pieces thicker on one edge than the other. The manufacturing process results in pieces with one face saw-textured. The other face is smooth or saw-textured, depending on the grade and customer preference. Bevel Siding is installed horizontally and gives an attractive shadow line that varies with the thickness of siding selected.

Bevel siding is available in clear and knotty grades. Clear siding gives premium quality appearance and is ideal for prestigious, upmarket applications. Knotty siding has warmth and casual charm and is ideal for homes, cottages, clubhouses or any application where a rustic appearance is desired.

Western Red Cedar Siding

Western Red Cedar siding on a home with a large wrap-around cedar deck. The exterior finish of a building is the face it presents to the world; it defines the mood and character of the structure and reflects the image desired by its designers, builders or owners.

Western Red Cedar siding is available in a range of designs and grades, offering the variety and versatility to complement any architectural style. It adapts equally well to bold and expressive modernism or the well defined criteria of period styling.

Above all, Western Red Cedar has an enduring beauty that projects an aura of prestige. It is a wood with great dimensional stability and natural decay resistance. Its freedom from pitch and resin makes it an excellent base for a wide range of finishes.

Cedar Shingles

Western Red Cedar Shingles

Western Red Cedar is among the largest and finest of all the cedars grown anywhere in the world, with a heartwood that is famous for extraordinary resistance to decay.

Western Red Cedar Shingled home.Western Red Cedar wood is of exceptionally light weight, one of the lightest of all commercial species and possesses a soft texture and close, even, straight grain. It is very easily worked, can be finished to a smooth, silky surface with little effort, is free from pitch, takes and holds stain, paints and enamels excellently, and has superior gluing qualities.

The wood contains a natural preservative oil which renders its heartwood highly resistant to decay giving it extreme durability without artificial preservative treatment. Protective measures to preserve it are unnecessary since it does not deteriorate appreciably even under severe climatic conditions. When left in its natural state, it weathers to a beautiful, soft, driftwood gray.

Eastern White Cedar Shingles

Eastern White Cedar Shingled home.Eastern White Cedar Shingles have many of the same qualities as the Red Cedar Shingles. They contain natural preservative oils, decay resistance and are free from pitch. White Cedar Shingles are made here, on the East Coast. Because they are lighter in color they give you an option for lighter stains or to do light color OVT solid oil stains.
